Cycle Tracks

In 2015, the City of Calgary introduced Cycle Tracks (protected bike lanes) to the city’s downtown area as a pilot project. Members of the C&E team were in on the ground floor of this initiative to develop and implement a comprehensive public education and awareness campaign. This was an especially fun and creative piece of work that ultimately resulted in significant uptake of the new cycle tracks as well as increased understanding and support of how to share the road. In addition to establishing the campaign slogan “move together”, the team developed a full range of communications and educational materials, helped coordinate and outfit a team of Bicycle Ambassadors to provide a range of outreach services, and organized an interactive public “thank-you” campaign modeled after something similar in Copenhagen to reward everyone, whether driving, cycling or walking near the cycle tracks for adhering to the new road structure and signs.
